TYPE 2

The Type 2 connector, commonly referred to as the Mennekes connector, is the most popular EV charging standard in the world. It is used in Europe, South America, most of Asia, Oceania and Africa, but not in North America, nor in Japan. (Click here for the full list of all countries that use EV charging connector Type 2)

The four side openings allow the connector to automatically lock into position

It improves upon Type 1 connectors by enabling 3-phase AC charging instead of only single-phase. The Type 2 design includes seven pins: five larger pins for power delivery and grounding, and two smaller pins for communication with the vehicle. This connector supports both single-phase and three-phase AC charging. It can deliver up to 63 amps at 415 volts, achieving a maximum output of 26 kW.

The plugs feature side openings that allow them to automatically lock into position when connected to an electric vehicle. This automatic locking mechanism between the plug and the car ensures the charging cable cannot be disconnected during the charging process.
